Charity Football Tournament
Charity event funds raised. On August 10th, a charity football tournament fun day was held in memory of two beloved members of the Crewe. To honour the valiant battle of Millie Bancroft and Gareth Jones against cancer. The event held at The White Lion, Warmingham Lane in Crewe, raised an amazing £5150.31. This amount continues to increase as those who participated in the fundraising sponsorship shaving their heads continue to provide sponsorship money.
Millie Bancroft lost her battle with a brain tumour on July 15th, 2017. Only 5 days after her 9th birthday. Millie was diagnosed at the age of 8 and was given 10 months to live. Though she fought bravely, Millie passed away 7 months after being diagnosed. With the help of Claire House and nursing staff from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Millie was able to remain at home until the very end. She attended Beechwood Primary School and is remembered as a beloved daughter, sister, and auntie. She was known for her love of arts and crafts, makeup, and her love for reading books.
Devoted father of two
Devoted father of two. Gareth Jones passed away at the age of 31, weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart Kate in 2013. Gareth battled melanoma, a form of skin cancer, for 18 months, undergoing two operations and intensive courses of radiotherapy. His family remembers him as a keen and talented footballer and father who never gave up on anything he did.
Charity event funds raised were donated to Claire House. The charity helps provide specialist nursing care and emotional support to seriously and terminally ill children and their families. By creating wonderful experiences, Claire House helps these young children and their families through their difficult times.
The event hosted an array of activities from bouncy castles, face painting, and raffles to stalls and games and a football tournament. Kids were excitedly queuing up at the wooden stocks to throw dirty wet sponges at volunteers involved in the football tournament. Gareth’s team the GJ8 FC proudly won the football tournament.
