Description
Resbuild SBR – Co-polymer emulsion
Resbuild SBR – Co-polymer emulsion which imparts beneficial property improvements to cementitious mixes. After appropriate dilution with water, the resultant liquid may be used to gauge the cementitious mix to the desired consistency. A reduced water to cement ratio leads to superior mechanical properties and resistance to moisture ingress.
- Plasticising action
- Waterproofing action
- Improves adhesion
- Reduces permeability
- Increases mechanical strength
- Up-grades chemical resistance
- Versatile and easy to use
- Cost-effective
- Improves freeze-thaw resistance
- Compatible with many types of cement
Uses
- Flooring: screeds and patch repairs in dairies, abattoirs, breweries, factories, etc.
- Bonding additive: renders, slip bricks, tiles, coping stones, etc.
- Concrete repair: making good structural concrete, an increase in effective concrete cover.
When preparing the surface for application, it is essential to ensure that the substrates meet specific criteria for optimal bonding and performance. The surfaces should be clean, sound, and free from any contaminants that could interfere with adhesion.
This includes removing substances such as oil, grease, moss, algae, and dust, as well as addressing any existing loose or flaking paintwork. Taking these steps will help to create a solid foundation for subsequent layers, ensuring durability and effectiveness in the finished result. Proper surface preparation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to the longevity of the application.
Priming
Pre-dampen the surfaces with clean, potable water, ensuring you remove any excess water. Mix a 1:1 ratio of cement and sharp sand until you achieve a slurry consistency, using a 1:1 blend of Resbuild SBR and water. Use a stiff brush to apply this bonding slurry onto the prepared surface.
Remember, in some cases, it’s better to prime with an epoxy bonding agent like Resbuild Tackprimer. When using this product, make sure to apply it to a dry substrate and allow it to ‘tack up’ before proceeding with the topping.
This step helps ensure a strong bond for optimal results. Remember, in some cases, it’s better to prime with an epoxy bonding agent like Resbuild Tackprimer. When using this product, make sure to apply it to a dry substrate and allow it to ‘tack up’ before proceeding with the topping.

Polymer-modified cementitious toppings – The appropriate design mix material shall be applied
while the primer is still tacky and finished, and cured in accordance with good concreting practice. Mix designs can be found on the technical datasheet.
